The Weekend Preview

18 Aug 2022 by Deanne Golledge

Greetings Readers, We’re Back! From accounts there have been a few questions as to the whereabouts of this little piece of Literature, and well if I’m honest I put it down to Writers Block!!
Actually Life just got in the way, Work commitments etc., and not enough hours in the day, but you don’t need to hear all of that.
So Briefly what have we missed…..
Well the Juniors season has ended. Congrats to our Under 17s on Making the Grand Final and while it was not the result we were hoping for, it was still a great season and one to be celebrated. As the Great Man, Damien Hardwick say’s we don’t celebrate enough in Footy, it’s all about Winning… He’s right of course, Flags are what we play for, but you can enjoy the journey on the way and celebrate your achievements.
Of course for the 17’s that means the end of Junior footy and a return to the early starts on a Saturday as they move into the seniors.
To the other teams, coaches, helpers parents etc., Congrats on the season, we’re hoping you all had fun and enjoyed the cut and thrust of the Contest.
We trust you will all be back next year to do it all again, and please Bring a Friend or two, the more the merrier….
Our Senior Women’s seasons have also come to an End. What an Amazing ride it’s been. We were the only Club to have both teams make the Finals. Both Sides went down in hard fought Preliminary finals last Weekend drawing the curtain on an amazing season of Growth in our women’s program,
To Till’s and Gavin and the teams, Celebrate what you have Achieved this year, and use the pain of last weekend as a Spur to take that next step in 2023.
The Netballers have also finished for the season and while they didn’t make finals, lots of fun and laughs were had along the way… Summer Season? We’ll see.
The team are always on the lookout for new players, so start getting yourself ready for a crack next year and keep an eye on the pages for details for preseason training etc.
To all our coaches, assistant’s , medic’s, anyone who did a roll on match days, Thank you, without your help and support it didn’t happen.
So what does that leave us with? The Senior Men! What a roller coaster of a season this has been, We’re heading to finals with the senior men, Reserves and Team Stioiks in the under 19’s.
For Team Bubba it was a challenging year to say the least, but to those of you who hung in there and saw it out to the end, Well done. I for one certainly hope we see you all back again next year, be it in under 19’s or moving up to the reserves. The Div. 2 & 3 finals kick off this week, hence why the boys are done for this year.
As for the remaining three teams, it’s one week to go before finals.
The senior men head to Montmorency to tune up for an Elimination final the following week and our happy Hunting ground at PCO.
Mont will be a good test, for next week, as yet our opponent is not guaranteed with Greensborough currently holding down 5th spot, a win for them over Macleod will lock in a Replay of the 2019 Grand Final.
If Macleod win they will jump the Slime, but would then need Bundoora to beat North Heidelberg to secure a finals spot.
Are you still with me?
In short it’s one of those three we will be facing, The good thing is we are locked and Loaded….
Same thing goes for the Reserves. We are heading to PCO for an elimination final. Now I can hear a few of those more Mature ressie boys -”hang on we can still grab third”. Its mathematically possible. I’m not so sure , I think 4 points and 87.37% is a Mountain too High to climb, but I am happy to be proven wrong!
That would mean a cut throat game against Greensborough in week one of finals.
To the under 19’s and Team Stioks, who will round out the home and away season with a home game against North Heidelberg at 9.40am, if you’re around the traps drop on and say g’day and give the boys a cheer.
The ladder is a little confusing for my brain at the moment, we are second as I look at it now. I think they are going on win % ,either way we have the double chance and will be up against, Wait for it…. Yep you guessed it Greensborough in the first week of finals.
Good luck to the three teams on the weekend. Here’s to a good fine tuning for the following week, and no injuries or silly suspensions.
A few things to put in your diaries….
Over the next two Sundays the club will be hosting Super Rules finals, 3 Games each weekend, So why not come along and take in some action , the canteen will be open and Dooga will be behind the bar, the AFL will be on the big Screen, Blues v Pies this Sunday -why not enjoy it all in the rooms? Games at 11, 1 and 3pm
We also have a few Presentation’s coming up.
