The Weekend Preview

27 May 2022 by Deanne Golledge

What do our Roosters in store for us this Weekend?

We might start with our wonderful Juniors this week. As I write this, with the tragic news out of Texas It makes you appreciate the Country we live in and just how lucky we are in Australia with our diverse nationalities and Cultures being able to live side by side in for the most part harmony. We are truly blessed.

If you have been affected by the tragic events, please reach out to someone. Be it family or friends, or one of our welfare officers Jane, Andrew or Sean whose details are on the website – and give your loved ones a hug.

To the playing action on Sunday and in age group order:

9 Blue are away at Yarrambat at 9.45. Scintillating action awaits 9 Red get us underway at home from the respectable time of 10.15 with Greensborough in the house of Fun.

The U10s are next up on the Hallowed turf with Monty providing the testing material action from 11.30

The under 11s have the longest road trip in the NFNL as they hit the Highway to take on Kilmore. It’s been a few years since I’ve made the trek to Kilmore. Do they still have those Roast Beef Rolls? Worth the trek alone! 11.30am

Our 12s are away at Greensborough from 10.00 for what promises to be a quality affair.

It’s a massive top 4 clash for the under 13s at Research. At 1.30, should be a good one.

They will have company. The under 16s also head to Research in the late game from 3.00, the team will look to keep lasts weeks momentum going against one of the benchmarks.

That leaves the under 17s, looking to bounce back to winning form as they host Keon Park from 3.00. One not to be missed

Our Senior women are also in action on Sunday, and in a quirk of fixturing the development team are at home playing before the 17s. After last weeks’ big win away, they will look to back it up against Hurstbridge from 1.15pm. It’s 2 v 3 expect sparks to fly.

Can the Senior Womens’ side knock off another contender this week? The last two weeks have been huge but this is the biggest challenge of them all – Diamond Creek Womens, away at Plenty Park oval at 3.00. If you get to One game this Weekend this is it.

The Netballers are taking on Lower Plenty at Mill Parks Stadium (4) at 8.45pm. As always – they would love some Rooster supporters to cheer them on.

To Saturday, and we have both under 19s playing at home. Team Stoiks will have the pleasure of Heidelberg at 9.40am. They don’t come any bigger at this stage of the season as the top two sides go head to head.

Then it’s team Bubba who get to reacquaint themselves with Moore Park, looking to get back on the winners list with Lower Plenty from 11.55.

That leaves us with the Seniors and Reserves on the road at Hurstbridge. It’s a tricky ground old Ben Frilay, and the ‘Bridges play it well. It’s a Must win for the Seniors and the Reserves will be looking to bounce back from last week. Tough games both, 11.55 and 2.10.

Was lucky to sit in on Paul Bacashs’ second episode of our “Footy Development Program” for the 16s and 17s on Wednesday night. This weeks’ session covered game preparation. It was a great discussion, one I’m sure the boys got a lot out off.

One interesting note – we spoil our kids! When asked how many of you make your own lunches etc only about 5 hands went up. Maybe a session on cooking and looking after yourselves!

Ok that’s about it for now. Enjoy your viewing this weekend.

Shout out to the Sponsors as always, Thank you. Support them where you can and make sure they know you’re a Rooster.

That’s a Wrap, or a Preview. Now go give a loved one a Hug.

See you at the Footy and Netball.

Keep your eye on the Red White and Blue.
